The next edition of the Navarra Arts Market will be taking place in November of 2018.
The first edition of 948 Merkatua, the Navarra Arts Market, has successfully generated dialogue between all the artistic disciplines for the first time in this region of Spain: film and television, the performing arts, publishing (books, records, and other media), music, the visual arts, and other creative and cultural industries. At this fair of fairs, organised by Navarra's Regional Government in collaboration with Pamplona City Council, there were a total of 166 activities that, in addition to the two areas of stands in Baluarte and Geltokia, attracted 8,732 visitors. At 948 Merkatua, the Navarra Arts Market, there were 1,080 accredited professionals, artists and journalists, who were able to make professional contacts and attend training sessions. The Department of Culture deemed the outcome of this first edition to be 'very positive', and announced that the second edition will take place in Pamplona in November of 2018.
On 15 and 16 November, during the morning, Baluarte hosted labs, conferences, project presentations and institutional meetings, involving professionals from Navarra, the Basque Country, La Rioja, Aragon, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine, along with other regions.
In the afternoons and evenings, professional activity gave way to exhibitions of music, performing arts, visual arts, film and television, in Pamplona's major cultural hotspots: Zentral, Teatro Gayarre, Escuela Navarra de Teatro (ENT/NAE), Geltokia, Condestable, Ciudadela, Escuela de Música Joaquín Maya and Filmoteca de Navarra. Over the course of these two afternoons and evenings, there were a wide variety of different proposals from Navarra's cultural scene, and these activities on offer were attended by 2,106 people.
948 Merkatua also hosted the Publishing Trade Fair (books, records and other media), which took place between 15 and 19 November in the ticket hall of Pamplona's former bus station (Geltokia). 27 exhibitors took part in this initiative organised by the Department of Culture to promote the region's publishing sector and to offer an overview of this cultural industry: publishers of books, record labels, press, magazines, and publications for Navarra's Regional Government, as well as self-publishing firms. This fair also included a programme of complementary activities. In total, 5,426 people visited Geltokia.
Accredited professionals at 948 Merkatua also had access to an appointments manager application, which organised 284 meetings between professionals and artists, as well as a mediation service between them and members of the public, as well as other professionals, which generated over 2,000 messages between the participants.
Following the success of this first edition, 948 Merkatua, the Navarra Arts Market, is continuing to work hard to become a reference point for the whole of Europe, and one of Spain's most significant professional arts events.
